How do I view my eBook on my Computer?

We often get asked, how can I view an ebook on a computer?  If you don’t have a mobile device or if you just like a larger screen size there are a lot of options for opening eBooks on your computer. What program you use will very on the type of file you have (.ePub or .Mobi) and your computer. The first question is, what type of computer do you have? Programs vary from PC to Mac. Let us help you find the most efficient for your needs.

If you have a PC…

EPUB:

Epub files are the industry standard file format for ipads and almost every other ereader besides the kindle, one great option is to use Adobe Digital Editions.

Adobe provides a free desktop application for viewing ebooks on your computer called Digital Editions. We have included the link here. Once the application is downloaded and installed, Open the application, click file then add item to library. Navigate your computer to find your Epub eBook file, click add, then double click the book you added to view it.

MOBI:

If you have a .Mobi file which is for kindle devices, we recommend Kindle previewer software.

Amazon developed an application to view Kindle files on your Mac or PC. Here is the download page. When the application is downloaded and installed, open it, click “Open Book” then navigate your computer to find your .Mobi ebook file.

If you have a Mac…

EPUB:

To view an ePub file on a Mac, you don’t have to download anything. Simply download the ePub file then right click and select “Open with…” and select iBooks. Easy as pie.

MOBI:

Same as with the PC, the Kindle previewer software is your best bet.

Amazon developed an application to view Kindle files on your Mac or PC. Here is the download page. When the application is downloaded and installed, open it, click “Open Book” then navigate your computer to find your .Mobi ebook file.

There are many options of eBook previewers out there, we find these to be the most accurate. Any previewer will not read the files as accurately as the actual device. Here at Convert a Book, we optimize your files for the devices, so there may still be a few things that look a bit different when you view the previewer.
